Historic renovation and adaptive reuse to residential condominiums
The Atriums at Soho West Condominiums project consists of 2 distinct buildings of differing construction types and styles. The Builders and Traders Exchange Building (1889) is of ornate finish and detail. The Burnham-Munger Manufacturing Company Building (1892) is of industrial heavy timber construction.
The design philosophy followed for this unique project was to focus attention on the defining architectural attributes of both buildings. Over-sized trim and traditionally influenced fixtures were incorporated to compliment the large central atrium with skylight. Simplistic contemporary design and detailing was utilized to highlight the industrial brick walls and wood ceilings.
The completed project encompasses 79,000 square feet and includes 41 residential condominium units, a fitness room with whirlpool and sauna, club room, and a 16 seat home theater.
