FIRST AND MAIN LOFTS

Historic renovation and adaptive reuse to condominiums

Originally the C.A Burton Machine Company Building constructed in 1905, this brick and heavy timber building was renovated to accommodate twenty five condominium units. Twenty one of the units are in the original building with the remaining four units on the Penthouse (fifth floor) roof top addition. Hanging balconies were added to the outside face of the west side of the original building. The Penthouse units were designed to have roof top terraces. SWD consulted with the historic review agency to determine the extent and feasibility of the roof top addition and hanging balconies. The tenant storage, building services and Commercial Lease Space are located on the first floor. The new condominium units are an average 970 square feet in area with seven per floor on floors 2 thru 4, and four units on the 5th floor. Amenities include tall ceilings, exposed timber and brick interiors (original building), exposed steel trusses (penthouse level), large windows, polished concrete floors, Italian style cabinetry, solid surface countertops, high end kitchen appliances, whirlpool tubs, frameless glass showers and a stackable front loading washer and dryer.
