LOFTS at 917
Originally named the Baker-Vawter Building, Lofts @ 917 was most recently known as the Sosland Building and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The six story reinforced concrete building was originally constructed to house the Western Office and Factory for the Baker-Vawter Company, manufacturers of steel filing equipment. The complete historic renovation and adaptive reuse for 39 apartment units was completed in May of 2005.
The architectural design for this 50,000 sf building focuses on its raw industrial character, emphasizing the floor to ceiling steel sash windows, concrete and masonry structure elements and exposed building systems. The design of an adjacent finger park, where a parking lot previously existed, provides a natural green space amongst its surrounding urban setting.
