STRAND APARTMENTS

Historic renovation and adaptive reuse to residential apartments

Built next to the Strand theatre, the hotel's Mission/Spanish Revival ornamentation complemented the theatre's architecture and was indicative of Chillicothe's prosperity in the early decades of the 20th Century. While the outside of the building was still attractive, it was essential that it be refurbished to maintain the historic character of Chillicothe's downtown square.

The original hotel rooms were converted to approximately 50 boarding rooms. However, the units were very small. SWD reduced the number to a total of 32 apartments. Each apartment has central heating and air conditioning, dishwasher, garbage disposal, range and oven, refrigerator, carpeting and mini blinds.

The lobby of the hotel has been restored to its original character and appearance, and the former banquet rooms have been converted to a library and computer lab with free Internet access for residents. There is also a leasing office, resident activity room, public bathrooms, common laundry facilities and resident storage. Covered parking is also provided.
