Historic renovation and adaptive reuse to senior apartments
The Truman Towers is an historic renovation and adaptive reuse of the original Osceola Public School. Originally constructed in 1915, the school had fallen into a sever state of deterioration when the project renovation began in 1999. SWD Architects developed an adaptive design for senior apartments that maintained the historically significant areas within the origianl school building. The original corridor and classroom locations were maintained with 25 new apartments being designed to work within the existing areas of the building. A partial second floor was added to the original gymnasium providing apartments and a two story community gathering space for the senior residents.
