WALNUT APARTMENTS

The Walnut Apartments consist of four buildings, three single family houses converted to apartments and a small apartment building.  Though listed on the National Register of Historic Places as part of the Walnut Street Historic District, the buildings had fallen into disrepair and had become local eyesore.

The four buildings were renovated into low to moderate income apartments with a new parking lot being added behind the buildings.  The historic renovations included preservation and recreation of the classical details associated with their catalog builder style architecture.

The restorations of these buildings has had a significant impact on the residential character of the neighborhood.  It has also been extremely beneficial to the revitalization of Springfield's downtown.
